Municipal mayors in Cebu were summoned to appear before the Office of the President in Malacañang Palace tomorrow, Wednesday.
According to Tuburan town Mayor Democrito Diamante, president of the League of Municipalities in the Philippines – Cebu chapter, they received the information last Saturday from the Department of Interior and Local Government in Central Visayas (DILG-7) requiring them to come in business attire during the meeting on January 11.
Diamante said that the meeting will be participated in by mayors from all over the country although the reason has not been disclosed.
“Text messages ra nadawat sa amo last Saturday unya ipa-confirm ang (attendance). Ang info gipa-course through DILG (We only received the text messages last Saturday and the attendance has to be confirmed. The info was coursed through the DILG),” Diamante said.
Mayors from the Visayas and Mindanao areas are scheduled to have their meeting at 2 p.m., while those from Luzon are set to meet later at 4 p.m.
DILG-7 Regional Director Rene Burdeos said they are also not aware about the topic of the meeting as it was not provided in the Malacañang’s advice that they received last Friday.
Burdeos said around 1,400 mayors from all over the country, including more than a hundred from the Central Visayas, are expected to attend the meeting.
