Going on a road trip? Take note of these tips
It’s the time of the year again when families and friends head out to their favorite summer destinations.
In Cebu, there are a lot of places that are road trip worthy during summer. But before going on these trips, it is important to take note of several reminders to avoid spoiling the fun.
Cebu Daily News gathered some tips to make travel hassle-free and enjoyable.
1. Check the vehicle
Since it is the main ingredient of a memorable road trip, travelers must see to it that the vehicles that will be used for long trips are in good condition.
“I suggest to have their cars checked first in service centers to avoid delays. It’s not easy when you get stalled on the road,” advised Leo J. Bathan, technical head of Gateway Group.
The most important thing to remember before going on a road trip is the so-called BLOWAG.
“It means batteries, lubricants, oil, water, air and gas. You have to check those things before the trips,” said Bathan.
2. Be prepared
Make sure you have the proper tools with you. This would save you the hassle of having to find a mechanic in quiet towns just in case your car breaks down. It is also important to be packed with water and food so no one starves. Oh and also, make sure you get your playlist ready. What’s a fun road trip without music?
3. Be a weatherman
Checking weather forecasts prior to trips is also a must. This way, you’d be able to prepare your mind on what to expect when driving.
“Road visibility reduces when its raining so you have to make sure that your wipers are working well. Also, you have to check your headlights especially when you have to drive at nighttime,” said Bathan.
4. Don’t be in a hurry
Over speeding must be avoided even when driving. There’s really no need to be in a hurry during vacations since we are really after enjoying the trip and not racing. Roads in the countryside are usually clear but stray animals crossing the roads may cause accidents, Bathan explained.
5. Take a break
In long trips, it is important to pull over every after a couple of hours. It’d be fun anyway, especially since the highway in Cebu is filled with scenic spots.
“Get out of the car, stretch your legs and get some fresh air. And if you feel sleepy, take a quick nap or if you have a companion who knows how to drive, let him drive first,” said Bathan. It is also during these breaks that you can take your all-important selfies.
