Displaced families and refugees from Marawi City, who are in Cebu or are planning to come to Cebu, should be profiled or should register their names in the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) information management system.

Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak, deputy mayor on police matters, said in an interview yesterday that the DSWD profile of the refugees would help the Cebu City government to know what kind assistance it could give them.

”Ang tuyo lang sad nato no nga ig abot nila diri sa Cebu, duna na sila daa’y data o information para (we’ll know) asa mo come in ang other government agencies nga motabang sa mga igsuong Muslims (Our intention is to have the information or profile of the refugees when they arrive in Cebu so that we will know what area in terms of aid can government agencies provide to help them, our Muslim brothers),” said Tumulak.

The profiling will include refugees who are already in Cebu and also for those who plan to come to Cebu.

Tumulak said that of the estimated over a thousand refugees already in Cebu, only 72 persons had registered in the DSWD information system.

He also said he coordinated with Malu Manonggiring, National Commission on Muslim Filipinos director, on the profiling of refugees, who in turn wrote the DSWD Mindanao requesting that the Mindanao agency do the profiling there of the refugees who plan on coming to Cebu, especially refugees who are already in Iligan, Cagayan de Oro and Ozamis.

He also said that Manonggiring and the Muslim community leaders here especially in Cebu City would be the ones to monitor the refugees, who had yet to be profiled.

Manonggiring would meet with the Muslim Community leaders to address the profiling issue of the displaced families from Marawi, who are in Cebu.

The meeting will discuss the schedule of the profiling in Barangay Sawang Calero in Cebu City on Thursday.
