What’s a weekend without indulging in one’s favorite dish and drink to wash away the stress of a week just past?

Well, we can now enjoy a time of leisure any day of the week in the city’s newest gastropub, aptly named the Weekend.

Located at The Greenery in Mabolo, the trendy bar and resto is another creation of Jan Rodriguez, along with partners Jay Alba, Edward Mellana and Jon Louis Yu (all of homegrown favorite resto Ila Puti).

The Weekend is a cozy dining place, which is also ideal for a nightcap.

Think prime cuts of steak, fish-and-chips combos, sandwiches, and all-day breakfast favorites, among others. And, of course, carefully selected craft beer, whisky, gin and mezcal.

“At the Weekend, we want to serve the best quality of food and beverage for all. Our quality is much higher at the same price-point segment, and at lower price-point at the same or better quality segment,” Jan said.

It was on a Wednesday when we visited the place and sampled the steak, salads and sandwiches.

A must-try is the Buffalo Cauliflower with celery sticks and Gorgonzola cheese dip, which at first glance looks like a plain golden fried chicken, but with the surprise of cauliflower inside.

Bourbon Bacon Steak. Bourbon maple-glazed double-double cut bacon, grilled tomatoes, fried eggs, dirty rice, quick pickled onions.

And then there’s Fat Bastard, a tender thick-cut chop, dry-rubbed and grilled, and Bourbon Bacon Steak that is a bourbon maple-glazed double-double cut bacon with grilled tomatoes, fried eggs, dirty rice and quick pickled onions.

Alongside its delectable dishes, the Weekend also carries a wide selection of craft beer and takes pride in being the first in Cebu to have a 16-tap nitro draft system, pouring beer by two craft breweries— the Turning Wheels and Cebu Brewing Co.

“Along with a cozy ambience and great service, we will set a new standard in the culinary scene,”Jan said.

The Weekend is open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for lunch and 6 p.m. to midnight for dinner and nightcap.
