F2 Logistics Cargo Movers sweep Cesafi All Stars in 55 minutes
Despite having little time to rest, the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers still pulled off a dominating win against the Cesafi Volleyball Women’s All-Star team, 25-21, 25-19, 25-14, in the first Cesafi All-Star Weekend yesterday at the University of San Carlos (USC) Main gymnasium.
It took just 55 minutes for the 2016 Philippine Superliga (PSL) All-Filipino Cup champions to wrap up the game against some of the best women’s volleyball players from the Cesafi.
What made the win more special is that F2 Logistics basically went straight into action after arriving in Cebu just a few hours before the game. The Cargo Movers arrived Friday morning and immediately got ready for the 5 p.m. game.
But the powerhouse squad, composed of current and former La Salle volleybelles, showed no signs of fatigue from the plane trip as it took an early 18-12 lead and held on to take the first set, 25-21.
The Cesafi All Stars tried to put up a fight as they gave the visiting team all they could muster, cutting the deficit to three, 21-18, late in the second. But the Cargo Movers had an answer for every run as they closed out the second set on a 4-1 rampage to take a comfortable 2-0 lead.
The Cargo Movers then finished off the Cebu team, 25-14, in the third.
Despite the win, Cargo Movers head coach Ramil de Jesus was impressed with how the Cesafi selection played.
“On this level of play, the local team really played very well,” De Jesus said.
Cesafi All-Star head coach Grace Antigua also said she was satisfied with the team’s performance. She is hoping the team can still put up a decent fight in their final encounter at 5:30 p.m. today.
“What we need is height to beat this team,” Antigua said in jest.
Marie Malagar is the tallest in the Cesafi side at 5 feet and 9 inches.
F2 Logistics is owned by Efren E. Uy, whose roots are from Cebu.
Meanwhile, the volleyball clinic which will be conducted by coaches and players of the Cargo Movers will be held at 9 a.m. today at the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Basak Campus.
In the lone Cesafi men’s match yesterday, the University of the Visayas (UV) handed Southwestern University–Phinma its first loss in three games with a 26-24, 25-22, 10-25, 25-13 decision.
