An armed man, whom police believed to be a gun-for-hire, was killed in a shootout with police officers in Barangay Ermita Proper in Cebu City.

Janisse Cabugason, 33, of Sitio Proper Ermita, Barangay Ermita, Cebu City, was shot several times in the body during a shootout on Monday evening with Operatives of the Regional Special Operations Group in Central Visayas (RSOG-7), who went to the area after receiving information of an armed person there,” said Senior Insp. Jonathan Taneo, Carbon Police Precinct chief, during a phone interview on Monday.

Taneo said that he and his men also rushed to area after also receiving information of an armed person in the area but the RSOG-7 team arrived there first.

According to initial investigation, Taneo said that the RSOG-7 team approached Cabugason but instead of surrendering, he instead fired at the police officers and missed.

The RSOG-7 team fired back hitting Cabugason in the body.

The police rushed the wounded man to the hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Taneo said that he would coordinate with the Homicide Section to find out if Cabugason was involved in a series of killings in the city.

Taneo said that he had received information that Cabugason was allegedly a gun-for-hire.
