The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) will provide police escorts to Vice Mayor Joel Dumdum of Asturias town following the discovery of an assassination plot against him.
Chief Supt. Danilo Constantino, chief of PRO-7, said they can provide at least two escorts for six months.
But if Dumdum needs escorts for a longer period, he can formally request the office of the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG) and seek the approval of PNP chief Allan Purisima.
Dumdum may also hire two private security agents.
“On the sixth month, the threat will be reviewed,” said Constantino.
Constantino also directed Asturias Police Station to conduct frequent checkpoints.
At least four persons were reportedly behind the assassination plot against Dumdum.
After a police encounter last Thursday by three guns-for hire in Asturias, the police learned about the plan to assassinate Dumdum after one of the arrested members, Jonathan Robi, squealed.
His companion, Edgar Escalante, was killed in an encounter while another cohort, Archie Alvarado was also nabbed.
Robi revealed they were ordered to kill Dumdum.
Police withheld the names of individuals behind the slay plot until they gather more evidence.
