BASKETBALL fans in Liloan, a northern town of Cebu, will gather this afternoon at the Formative Academic and Skills Development School, located in the town’s Barangay Cotcot, for the opening of the 1st Formative Cup 2018 Inter-Company and Inter-Subdivision Basketball Tournament.
The tournament, which will have the Under 17 age-group for the Inter-Subdivision and the open category for the Inter-Company, will be ushered in by a short program and games.
Teams competing in the Under 17 Inter-Subdivision are Langy Subd., Mt. Olives School, Schildknecht A, Schildknecht B, Compre Baller, Formative Baller, Villamor Residence, Villa Azalea, Brgy Alang2x and VDrink.
Ian Castañares, one of the members of the Formative Sports Commission (FSC) which is organizing the event, said 17 teams confirmed participation in the Inter-Company with three more to confirm today yet.
He added that they are limiting the number of teams to 20 to ensure that the hoopfest will have quality and that it will be a good experience for the participating teams.
Earlier, FSC had planned to also hold an Under 21 and Under 13 categories in the Inter-Subdivision but decided not to push through with it as there were only a few teams who signified their intention of participating.
Formative School owner Lemuel Lapingcao, however, assured that they will be holding an Under 13 tournament soon.
The champion and runner-up in the Inter-Company division will get P15,000 and P10,000 in cash prizes, respectively. The Inter-Subdivision champion will get P10,000 while the runner-up will get P5,000.
Trophies and medals will also be given to the grand winners while prizes will also be given to the Most Valuable Player and the Mythical 5 in both divisions.
A prize will also be given to the Best Player in every game.
