EXPECTING a strong fight back from their foes, the Talisay City Aquastars played superb all-game long to cruise to a 96-69 rout over the Sibonga Pillars in Game 2 of the best-of-three South Division championship series of the 2018 Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament last night at the Sibonga Sports Complex.
With the win, the Aquastars swept the series, 2-0, and were crowned South Division champions. They will take on the winner of the North Division Finals series between San Francisco, Camotes and Consolacion.
That series starts Sunday at the San Francisco Sports Complex.
The victory also meant Talisay City remained unbeaten in this tournament after 12 games.
“I never expected the team to win the title knowing that Sibonga was expected to fight in their homecourt. But I think the boys already learned their lesson in Game 1 when we almost lost that game,” said Talisay City head coach Rey Gurrea
Sibonga managed to erect double-digit leads in Game 1 before collapsing in the end, giving the win to Talisay, 93-70.
This time, Talisay built leads of as high as 36 to cruise to the win.
Jay Deiparine led the Aquastars with 24 points.
