OLYMPICS silver medalist and Asian Games gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz will have to wait until today to know if she won in the 59-kilogram division of the 6-in-1 National Weightlifting Championship organized by the Samahang Weighlifting ng Pilipinas (SWP) and being held at the Wing Atrium of the SM Seaside City Cebu.
The 59kg weight class was supposed to be contested today but Diaz was allowed to do her lift yesterday because she had to take an exam.
The division had eight contestants including Diaz, who is representing the Philippine Air Force.
Her competitors, who will be doing their lifting today, are from SAMJON Weightlifting Club of Bohol, Zamboanga, UE Weightlifting Team and University of Cebu.
The weight to beat is Diaz’s 195kg total lift off a 85kg snatch and 110kg clean and jerk.
Aside from the 59kg, also to be contested today are the 55kgs division for girls and boys, the 81, 89, 89+ and 96kgs weight divisions.
Diaz is not alone as other student athletes were are also given a chance to compete earlier to give way to their studies or exams, said Philippine weightlifting team coach Antonio Agustin.
