Ex-wife of a Sabalones ‘hitman’ nabbed with drugs

CEBU CITY, Philippines—The former wife of an alleged hitman of self-confessed drug lord Franz Sabalones was arrested last night in Cebu City in a drug bust by the San Nicolas Police Station.

Maraljean Ongcol, 28, who only got out of prison three months ago, was arrested in possession of about P21,600 worth of shabu (crystal meth) in an operation conducted by the drug enforcement unit of the San Nicolas police near her residence in Gen. Gines Street, Barangay Suba, Cebu City.

Ongcol was the wife of Daniel Ongcol, an alleged hitman of Sabalones who is currently detained at the Cebu City Jail after he was caught in 2016 and charged for violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act and for illegal possession possession of firearm, according to Chief Inspector Kenneth Paul Albotra, the San Nicolas police chief.

Albotra said the female Ongcol was an ex-convict, as she had previously been jailed on drug charges. She was in prison for two years and was released only three months ago, he said. /elb
