Suspect behind killing of 14-year-old in Danao City surrenders to cops

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Jessie Medequillo, the suspect behind the killing of Thesa Marie Ygay, has surrendered to law enforcers four days since the corpse of the 14-year-old victim was found in a septic tank at a school in Danao City on Monday, April 8.

Lieutenant Colonel Ismael Gauna, chief of Tuburan Police Station, confirmed this to members of the media today, Friday (April 12).

Gauna also said Medequillo, who is 34 years old and worked as a security guard, surrendered to police officers in Tuburan town at past 5 a.m. today, where he reportedly hid. Tuburan is a second-class municipality located 91.8 kilometers northwest of Cebu City.

Gauna added that Medequillo would be transferred to the custody of the Danao City Police Station anytime today.

Investigators are focusing on personal grudge as a possible motive of Medequillo for killing Ygay, and dumped her lifeless body in a septic tank at Cogon Cruz Integrated School in Barangay Cogon Cruz, Danao City.
