CEBU CITY, Philippines – The University of the Philippines (UP) condemned the brutal death of Kis Tryvl Ramos, a graduating Psychology student enrolled in the university’s Cebu campus who was among the casualty of a shooting inside a coffee shop along F. Ramos Street, Cebu City.
“Mariin naming tinututulan at kinokondena ang trahedyang ito. Patuloy kaming umaasa sa paggaling at paghilom ng sugat ng iba pang mga biktima (We condemn to the highest degree the violence that caused this tragedy. And we hope that those injured may recover and heal),” UP said in an official statement published on their website.

UP, the country’s national university, is also calling for justice for the victims of the incident that also claimed the life of John Michael Hermoso — Ramos’s employer and the coffee shop’s head barista — and wounded two more employees identified as Jerome Amada and Sherwin Rivera.
“Nakikiisa ang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas sa panawagan ng UP Cebu para sa katarungan. Ang buong Unibersidad ay hindi lamang nagluluksa, bagkus nananawagan ng hustisya para kay Kis at sa lahat ng mga biktima ng isang karumaldumal at walang kabuluhang pagpatay,” it added.
(The University rallies behind UP Cebu’s call for justice. The whole UP community demands justice for Kis and all the victims of such a senseless and vicious act.)
Ramos and Hermoso, both working at The Good Cup Coffee Company, were shot dead by a still unidentified assailant on Wednesday evening, April 10.
The suspects also shot two more employees of the coffee shop. Both Rivera and Amada are still confined in an undisclosed hospital for further treatment.
Investigators, in earlier interviews, said they had reason to believe that the suspect’s primary target was Hermoso, and that he attempted to also kill the others to leave no witnesses behind.
Police are eyeing love-triangle involving Hermoso, and business as possible motives behind the incident.
