NYD 2019 pilgrims start to arrive in Cebu

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Delegates of the National Youth Day (NYD) 2019 have started to arrive in Cebu today, April 23,  for the six-day activity.

Bryner Diaz, NYD media liaison, said that delegates started arriving at the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA), the north and south bus terminals and Cebu City’s port area at midnight today.

The participants were immediately brought to the nine festival sites located in Metro Cebu area, from Naga City in the south to Liloan town in the north, where they will be registered. They will later on be brought to their host parishes and introduced to their host families.

Host families coming from 52 host parishes in Metro Cebu are expected to provide delegates with accommodation, transportation and food during the duration of their stay here.

The Archdiocese of Cebu that is hosting this year’s gathering is expecting at least 12, 000 delegates coming from different archdiocese in the country.

Diaz said that NYD delegates are expected to continue arrive until later today. NYD buses are stationed at the arrival areas with three policemen onboard to ensure the security of guests.

The NYD opening program is set to start on Wednesday.  Activities for the day will include a procession of the Holy Family from the Cebu City Sports Center to the basilica where a Mass will be celebrated at 8 p.m. /dcb
