CEBU CITY, Philippines — Drinking of liquor will be prohibited along the Pasigarbo sa Sugbu route on Sunday, August 25.
Anyone caught for the offense will be penalized with a fine of P500 or imprisonment of at least 12 hours as provided for in Cebu City Ordinance No. 1929 that penalizes drunkenness in public places, says Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella.
Labella said on Saturday, August 24, that he already wrote Police Colonel Gemma Vinluan, the chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), and asked the police director to implement a liquor ban along the Pasigarbo street parade route from the Cebu Provincial Capitol to the Cebu City Sports Center, the venue of the competition on Sunday.

The ban will be implemented from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. or until the event is over, he said.
“This is to prevent people from drinking liquor during the Pasigarbo. We are expecting so many celebrants and if people started drinking alcohol, it will not be good,” Labella added.
Labella said he wanted to make sure that the provincial government organized event on Sunday will remain safe for the spectators and participants.

Meanwhile, Labella has also directed the officials of Barangays Guadalupe, Capitol Site, Sambag I, Sambag II, and Calamba to deploy their tanods to serve as multiplier force especially along the Pasigarbo sa Sugbu parade route.
He especially wanted the tanods to help direct public utility jeepneys and private vehicles to follow the traffic rerouting scheme that will be implemented that day.
