Globe gets P90.5 billion record high revenues
MAKATI – Globe Telecom earned P90.5 billion last year, an “all time high” in total service revenues, said Ernest Cu, Globe president and CEO, in yesterday’s annual stockholders meeting.
The telecom company, which has 38.5 million subscribers, is looking at bigger opportunities this year to advance its mobile data footprint.
Globe will focus on enhancing their 3G, 4G and LTE sites especially in commercial and tourism areas nationwide to enhance mobile browsing experience.
Globe aims to remain a “reliable” network for messaging and voice calls, high speed internet surfing, seamless video streaming and social media use for the fast upload of photos and videos.
Their fiber optic network includes underwater cables in tourism destinations like Boracay and Coron in Palawan.
“Data will remain a key investment area for the company in 2014 in anticipation of significant demand for service. About a quarter of the company’s capital expenditure of P27 billion for 2014 will be devoted to data-related investments including deployment of LTE technology and strengthening its broadband infrastructure,” said Cu.
“We have long anticipated the age of mobile data, and we expected a surge of communications options beyond traditional voice and SMS that it presents.”
Globe has partnerships with chat applications like Viber, Facebook, Messenger, KakaoTalk, WeChat, Gmessage, Whatsapp and Line to enable communication via mobile data.
