MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – Personnel from Mandaue City’s Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) distributed dinner to flood-affected families residing along the Butuanon River, Sunday night, October 4.
“As floodwaters of the Butuanon river slowly subside, personnel from the Mandaue City Social Welfare Department prepares and serves meals to the families affected by the sudden rising waters and were not able to cook dinner,” the city’s Public Information Office said in a social media post.

More than 400 families from Barangays Casuntingan, Alang-alang, and Paknaan were displaced after the water level at the Butuanon River overflowed at past noontime on Sunday and flooded their homes.
Flooding was caused by heavy downpour in the mountains of Cebu.
In a report, the Mandaue City government said that a 12-year-old boy from Barangay Paknaan suffered a wound on his foot after being washed away by the rising water.
The affected families were allowed to go back to their homes after the floodwater started to subside.

Flooding and minor landslides were also experienced in some mountain barangays in Cebu City.
