CEBU CITY, Philippines — Policemen in two police stations in Cebu City are trying to win hearts in this day of hearts — by giving flowers to random ladies on the streets and establishments under their areas of jurisdiction.

“Para ma feel pod sa public nga bisag unsa ka busy sa pulis, ato silang gigahinan aron ma feel nila nga naa joy Valentine’s Day karong adlawa,” said Police Major Alvin Llamedo, Talamban Police Station chief, in a phone interview.

(This is to let the public feel [happy and loved] despite the policemen’s busy schedule. We can still spare some time for them to let them feel the joy and essence of Valentine’s Day today.)

Llamedo and the policemen of the Talamban Police Station gave random women flowers like the female guards of establishments and random women on the streets.

He said with this he reminded the public that the police had been working together with the community and the local government unit to keep the peace and order in their areas.

“Para atoang pulis is magkaduol sa kasingkasing sa katawhan and to gain trust,” said Police Major Kenneth Paul Albotra, acting chief of the Carbon Police Station.

(For our police to be nearer to the heart of the public and gain their trust.)

Aside from giving flowers to random women, Carbon policemen also handed out health kits comprising of alcohol and a face mask, and leaflets with crime prevention tips.

They gave these Valentine’s Day gifts to random women in establishments, malls and along the road.

Albotra said that it was very overwhelming for them to see that big smiles from those they gave flowers to./dbs
