LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-7 has started the registration for the Philippine ID System (PhilSys) in Lapu-Lapu City on Monday, March 22, 2021.
Around 500 Oponganons have applied for the PhilSys this morning (March 22), in an activity led by Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan, said Engineer Ariel Florendo, yPSA-7 regional director, and representatives from the Land Bank of the Philippines.
Applicants will receive their PhilSys card after a month because its printing will be done in their central office in Luzon.
Aside from the PhilSys card, applicants will also receive a master loadable and pre-paid card, which is a part of the financial inclusion of indigents.
“Dakong pasalamat nako nga niabot na gyud ang national ID dinhi sa atong syudad,” Chan said.
(I am grateful that the (registration for) the national ID has arrived in Lapu-Lapu City.)

Chan said that the national ID would also help the city to easily identify visitors, especially that the number of their residents were fast increasing.
Florendo also expressed his gratitude to Chan for his support, after they successfully conducted their census and pre-registration last year.
“Mahuman ang pre-registration karong March 31, pero ang pangutana naa pa ba’y pre-registration? Naa gihapon. Para dili nata magsige og tapok-tapok diri, naay gitawag og online registration. I hope maka-organize ang inyong city of online registration,” Florendo said.
(The pre-registration will end on March 31, but the question is will be another pre-registration? There is still (a pre-registration). So that we will not gather a crowd here, we have what we call online registration. I hope your city government can organize an online registration.)
Florendo said he also hoped that the city would continue to support its upcoming projects in the future.
After the program, Chan also participated in the activity, where the PSA took the mayor’s biometrics: like his iris scan, fingerprints, facial image reception code, and other distinguishing features, and have it stored in a smart chip in a tamper-proof ID. This serves as his national ID.
