CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Cebu City Police Office or CCPO is encouraging establishments in Cebu City to continue observing health protocols.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla, CCPO deputy director for operations, made this call after the inspection they conducted last night (June 25) in establishments in three areas in the city showed that these bars and restaurants followed the health protocols.
This followed the June 20 surprise inspection or Oplan Bulabog of a high-end bar in Barangay Luz where at least 100 individuals were caught violating curfew and health protocols.
Parilla said that the inspection was made after the city recorded an increase of COVID-19 cases where majority of the patients had visited resto-bars and restaurants in the city.
As of June 25, the Department of Health in Central Visayas has announced at least 55 new cases in Cebu City alone.
Police Colonel Josefino Ligan, CCPO chief, led the surprise inspections in three major areas where resto-bars and restaurants were mostly located: Cebu IT Park, 88th Avenue in Barangay Banilad, and in Panagdait in Barangay Kasambagan.
“Naa ray ginagmay like kadtong mga wala ma follow nga numbers sa customers, although naay hawan pero naa may ubang grupo gud nga daghan pero anhi ras gamay nga table magtapok, mao ray na caution gabie,” he said.
(We noticed light violations. There are those who did not follow the numbers of customers per table, although there are empty spaces, some groups prefer to use a smaller table wherein they will be gathered and violate social distancing instead.)
Overall, Parilla said that establishment owners followed the protocols and that only a few were warned for failing to follow the allowed occupants per table.
He added that they were looking forward that all the establishments in Cebu City would be persistent in adhering to all protocols.
Aside from last June 20’s apprehensions for curfew and health protocol violations, the authorities also caught an Irishman during one of those surprise inspections and he was arrested after he resisted arrest.
Aside from CCPO Chief Ligan, those who joined the surprise inspections last night, June 25, included acting Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama; Councilor Joel Garganera, who is the Emergency Operations Center chief implementer; and retired General Mel Feliciano, deputy chief implementer of the IATF in the Visayas.
