CEBU CITY, Philippines – With the slight spike in the number of new COVID-19 cases,  Cebu City officials are ramping up measures to ensure minimum health standards are being observed, including by those who are in the city’s vaccination sites.

Councilor Dave Tumulak said they will be implementing additional safety measures in the city’s vaccination centers that will include the deployment of personnel from Task Force Kasaligan to serve as “protocol marshalls.”

“Starting July 5, the Cebu City Government will be deploying marshalls in the city’s vaccination centers as protocol marshalls,” said Tumulak in Cebuano.

Tumulak said they will also strictly limit the number of vaccinees in every site by allowing only the entry of those who are scheduled to get their vaccine shots that day.

“Base on the data from DOH, nisaka jud ato cases sa COVID. We need the support and understanding sa public for the safety sa ato vaccinees and for the safety sa ato mga medical volunteer sa vaccination centers,” he added.

(Based on data from DOH, we are again experiencing an increase on new COVID cases. We need the support and understanding of the public to ensure the safety of the vaccinees and for the safety of the medical volunteers who are at the vaccination centers.)

The COVID-19 bulletin from the Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-7) on July 4 showed that Cebu City’s active COVID-19 cases was about to breach the 1,000-mark.

The city’s number of active COVID-19 cases increased to 918 after the city logged 77 new ones on the same day.

There are at least five sites where the COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Cebu City are being held.

These are the Banilad and J. Alcantara Street campuses of the University of Cebu, SM Seaside City Cebu, Robinsons Galleria and the NOAH Complex in South Road Properties (SRP).

Over 270,000 individuals in the city, a priority area in the national government’s COVID-19 vaccine drive, have registered to get themselves inoculated.

Of this number, the city government reported to have administered over 100,000 doses of the vaccines.

To achieve herd immunity, Cebu City needs to vaccinate at least 700,000 individuals. / dcb
