Chess phenom Belano wins another weekly title

CEBU CITY, Philippines—Kristina Belano bagged another weekly title as she topped the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) Weekly Online Chess Tournament: Coleto Itaas Blitz Competition Season 1 last Sunday, August 8, 2021.

Belano, the 12-year old Cebuana chess phenom, won her sixth weekly edition title this year after topping the Group B Arena-Cepcans B and ladies category.

She scored 32 points in the arena system competition and outlasted Maria Kristine Lavandero, who settled for second place with 31 points. 

Randy Cabuncal finished third with 24 points while Filemon Kapuno III and Eladio Lim III placed fourth and fifth, respectively. 

In the All-Cepcans competition, one of the Toledo City Trojans’ ace woodpushers, National Master (NM) Rogelio Enriquez Jr. dominated the competition with 9.5 points. 

NM Enriquez Jr. won nine matches and got one draw while Jimmy Ty Jr. placed second with nine points and Isen Montero claimed  third spot with eight points. 

Michael Tinga settled for fourth place with 7.5 points. NM Jasper Rom and Rosendo Yamyamin placed fifth and sixth, respectively. 

The weekly chess tournament was sponsored by United States-based Cepcan Susan Itaas, who is a National Master (NM) in chess here in the Philippines. Itaas sponsored the event to celebrate her birthday.
