Choco Mucho spikers bow to Kazakhs in final match of Asian women’s volleyball

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Team Choco Mucho capped off their campaign in the 21st Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championships with a loss and a sixth-place finish in the weeklong meet.

The Pinays bowed to the Zhetysu VC of Kazakhstan, 0-3, in their final assignment at the Terminal 21 competition hall in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand on Thursday, October 7, 2021.

The Kazakhs served the Filipina volleybelles the same result they had in their first meeting on Oct. 2 where the former also won in three sets during the preliminary round in Pool A.

In their second meeting, the Kazakhs also battered the Pinays, 25-14, 25-11, and 25-23, to finish fifth overall.

Team Choco Mucho earned their match versus Zhetysu VC after beating another Philippine team, the Rebisco Philippines on Wednesday. 3-1.

Rebisco Philippines’ loss to Choco Mucho placed them at the bottom of the rankings.

Despite finishing in the last two places, Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) President Ramon Suzara reiterated that their outing in Thailand was to provide the national squads much-needed exposure.

Team Choco Mucho is manned by Kalei Mau, MJ Phillips, Tin Tiamzon, Kat Tolentino, Mylene Paat, Ria Meneses, Dell Palomata, Deanna Wong, and Dawn Macandili.

Meanwhile, it is the Rebisco Philippines men’s volleyball squad’s turn to take the spotlight tomorrow as the Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship starts at the same venue.

The Pinoys will face Iran’s Sirjan Foulad at 11:00 AM (Manila Time) in Pool B.

The team is manned by John Vic de Guzman, Jessie Lopez, Rex Intal, Mark Alfafara, Kim Malabunga, Ish Polvorosa, Francis Saura, Josh Retamar, Jao Umandal, Ricky Marcos, JP Bugaoan, Ysay Marasigan, Nico Almendras and Manuel Sumanguid.
