No new COVID transmissions in 43 Cebu City brgys

Octa research: Cebu City 'very low risk' to COVID

CEBU CITY, Philippines – The COVID-19 situation here continues to improve as the Christmas season draws closer.

The latest report from the city’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) show that 43 or more than half of Cebu City’s 80 barangays, have not reported new COVID transmissions.

This meant that health authorities were not able to record any new cases of the infections in these barangays in the past 14 days.

The barangays with no new COVID cases, however, were not named in the EOC report.

Meanwhile, Cebu City continues to report a low daily number of new COVID patients.

On November 6, the EOC logged 20 additional cases of the infection and 19 recoveries, bringing the total active cases here to 211, a massive drop compared to the 4,000-mark posted last August.

There were also no new mortalities related to COVID-19 registered on the same date, keeping the total at 1,517.

Critical care utilization rates in the city’s hospitals, both public and privately owned, continue to decline.

As of November 6, based on the same data from the EOC, occupancy rates for COVID-dedicated beds stood at approximately 24 percent, which is way within the safe levels.

Experts consider critical care utilization rates below 60 percent as healthy and safe.

Cebu City has experienced more relaxed restrictions and protocols since it was placed under Alert Level 2 on October 20.
