CEBU CITY, Philippines – The entire island province of Cebu has been reverted to a stricter quarantine classification.

This after the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-MEID) included Cebu province under the list of areas under Alert Level 3.

The IATF, in its Resolution No. 157-A, also reiterated its earlier pronouncement of putting Lapu-Lapu City under Alert Level 3.

Earlier, the Lapu-Lapu City Government submitted an appeal before the national government’s anti-COVID task force to reconsider their new quarantine status.

The cities of Mandaue and Cebu were also reverted to Alert Level 3 since January 14.

Other nearby provinces in Central Visayas such as Bohol and Negros Oriental also joined Cebu under Alert Level 3.

Cebu province’s updated status will take effect this Sunday, January 16, 2022. It is expected to last until January 31, 2022.

Although the IATF did not specify any reason as to why they decided to put Cebu under Alert Level 3, local data here showed that the province has been experiencing a sharp increase of daily, new COVID-19 cases.

Based on the January 14 bulletin from the Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-7), Cebu province’s active cases stood at 858.

On that same day, the province registered 177 new cases of the infection.

Under Alert Level 3, there will be no lockdowns but several establishments and activities are restricted.

These included karaoke bars, contact sports, face-to-face classes, funfairs (peryas in local term), clubs, concert halls, theaters, casinos, horse racing, cockpits, and residential gatherings.

Meanwhile, government offices will be operating at a 30 percent capacity.

The following establishments are also told to operate at a 30 percent capacity for indoors, and 50 percent capacity for outdoors.
