CEBU CITY, Philippines — Starting Monday, January 24, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama will be working from home until further notice.
This after the mayor on Monday announced that he had voluntarily placed himself under isolation after being exposed to a COVID-19 patient.
Rama told reporters in a virtual briefing that even if he tested negative of the infection, it was his choice to isolate for a couple of days.
“I am being identified as exposed (to COVID-19) and therefore I should also be sensitive… I have to be very careful,” said Rama.
He also said he opted not to physically report at the City Hall due to his existing co-morbidities, and that he wants to protect his infant son from getting the virus.
In addition, the mayor instructed several employees to also work from home and canceled physical flag-raising ceremony on Monday as a precaution.
“In the meantime, while we have to do something, we must be careful,” he added.
New cases of COVID-19 in Cebu City continue to increase.
As of January 23, the total number of active cases of infection here has reached 6,948 after the city logged 523 additional patients.
Cebu City is under Alert Level 3 until January 31, 2022.
