CEBU CITY, Philippines – Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia recently confirmed she already got her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
She was administered with the Chinese brand Sinopharm last February 12, 2022 and added that she did not experience any side effects. She is expected to get her second dose this March 12.
In a press interview, however, Garcia stood by with her stance that getting COVID-19 vaccines is a ‘personal choice’.
“You know why I did this? Because people have been saying nga ‘oh imong labanan mga unvaccinated kay utro sad ko.’ So, nagpavaccinate ko. So that labanan nako ang mga unvaccinated, I shall be speaking from a higher moral ground,” said Garcia.
“Because even if I would have had myself vaccinated, I will still maintain that it’s a matter of choice – a personal choice. And we should respect that – the decision of each and every Cebuano, as regards his or her body,” she added.
The governor has been vocal in her opinion that administering COVID-19 vaccines should not be made mandatory.
In particular, her opposition to policies designed to limit the mobility of unvaccinated individuals, saying these are discriminatory.
