MANDAUE CITY, Philippines — Policemen in Mandaue City are reminding parents that the 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. curfew for minors is still in place, and what was lifted by the city government was the curfew on adults.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Rudolf Oriol, Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) deputy director for operations, reminded parents of this after they caught 31 minors this month violating the curfew.
Oriol said they immediately turned them over to their respective barangays.
He said they had not imposed the P1,000 penalty on first-time violators, but they would impose the corresponding penalty if they would be caught violating the curfew again.
“Mas importante nga mauli sila sa ilang mga ginikanan. Of course, after educating them ngadto sa barangay adto mi pabor, ig abot sa barangay ang mga barangay officials muhatag man og leksyun, pahimangno sa mga minors,” said Oriol.
(It is more important that they will be home with their parents. Of course, that is after the barangay officials educate them about the curfew and warn the minors about consequences if they violate them again.)
Mandaue City lifted the curfew for adults and establishments on February 16 after the entire Cebu was placed under Alert Level 2, to revitalize the economy.
However, minors are still subject to the 11 p.m to 4 a.m curfew except when they would be accompanied by their parents or when attending work or for essential purpose
Meanwhile, Oriol also observed that the weekly average number of crime incidents in the Mandaue City had not changed despite the lifting of the curfew for adults three weeks ago.
He said that the crime average for the city had been 1 crime incident a week this month and it was only in February that they recorded up to 4 crimes in a week.
Oriol said even though that the curfew was already lifted, Mandaue police still continued to implement their anti-criminality activities such the Oplan Pahimangno and Oplan Sita.
Oriol added that they would maintain their maximum police visibility at night and the city’s crowded places.
