Cebu City police are in hot pursuit of two former policemen with rogue records who have been linked to last Thursday’s robbery of a Western Union branch in barangay Guadalupe.
Senior Supt. Noli Romana, chief of the Cebu City Police Office, said s Eugene “Tiyoy” Polutan Salingay, was formerly assigned in Oroquieta City Police Station in Misamis Occidental. Salingay, who had the rank of PO2, was dropped from the rolls after he went absent without official leave (AWOL) last year and was linked to drugs and robberies in Oroquieta City, as well as a robbery in August in this year in Carmen town, north Cebu.
He was identified in CCTV video footage of the heist. He entered the establishment posing as a customer.
The second suspect, Ronilo Manuel, was a PO2 in the Cebu City Public Safety Company.
He stopped reporting for work in February last year after he was accused of robbing a 22-year-old woman on R. Landon Street and was arrested on May 23 this year for possession of bullets and drug paraphernalia.
Western Union lost P30,200 and a cellular phone to the robbers.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama ordered police to arrest the robbers, saying he was “not happy” with the recent heist.
