CEBU CITY, Philippines – Preparations are now ongoing for the Capitol’s 453rd Founding Anniversary in which the provincial government plans to revive its pre-pandemic traditions and events.

In a recent press conference, Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said they will push through with the return of the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo this year.

Garcia told reporters that the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo will take place this August 28 at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).

As a preparation, the Capitol will be meeting with all mayors of the province’s towns and component cities this Wednesday, July 6, to identify the localities that will be joining this year’s festival, she added.

“Nag schedule nata ug meetings with the Mayors within this week para madiscuss kinsay gusto nga maoy moapilpara magahinan sad natog budget para sa tabang nila,” Garcia said.

The governor also reiterated their initial plans to return the Capitol’s tradition of holding a month-long celebration for its founding anniversary.

This included holding a ‘tabo’ to allow producers from various parts of the province sell their goods at the Capitol grounds, and job fairs.

Since 2020, the provincial government conducted simple rites for its annual founding anniversary due to lingering threats of COVID-19.

Cebu province’s founding anniversary falls annually on August 6 and is considered a local holiday for the entire island of Cebu.
