CEBU CITY, Philippines – Officials from Taiwan are considering establishing sisterhood ties with Minglanilla town in southern Cebu, the local government announced.
Minglanilla Mayor Rajiv Enad, in a press statement, revealed that they met with Taiwan Ambassador Michael Peiyung to discuss plans of ‘establishing international relations and future cooperation’.
“Brighter days are up ahead for Minglanilla,” Enad said.
The mayor met with the Taiwanese diplomat last Tuesday, July 25 at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Manila.
The mayor said their local government wanted to learn the best practices in terms of governance and policies from progressive cities and countries like Taiwan.
“Initial exploratory talks present a positive direction with Taiwan, opening assistive opportunities in the field of Agriculture, Education, Tourism, Export Industry, and establishing a sisterhood locality,” said Enad.
Among the possible programs that may arise out of the sisterhood included the creation of farm tourism as a practical and sustainable farming practice and sending Visayas-based scholars to top universities in Taiwan.
Minglanilla is a first-class municipality located approximately 19 kilometers southeast of Cebu City. /rcg
