CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebuanos are advised to bring their umbrellas when outdoors this weekend as chances of rain are high.

Jhomer Eclarino, a weather specialist at Pagasa – Mactan, said the prevailing InterTropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) currently affecting Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao, would bring mostly cloudy to cloudy skies over Metro Cebu this weekend.

“Naa gihapon ang tinatawag nato nga localized thunderstorms and isolated rain showers. Naa tay nakita nga light to moderate with occasional heavy rains this weekend,” Eclarino told CDN Digital.

(We can still have what we call localized thunderstorms and isolated rain showers. We can see that there will be light to moderate with occasional heavy rains this weekend.)

He, however, said the rain this weekend would not be continuous.

Occasional heavy rains are expected to only last in less than an hour and to occur from afternoon to evening.

Moreover, this weekend’s maximum temperature is predicted to be between 30 and 31 degrees Celsius, with a heat index of 38 degrees Celsius.

Eclarino said aside from ITCZ, they were not monitoring any weather disturbance nor low-pressure areas within and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Pagasa, last October 5, declared that the Habagat season, or Southwest Monsoon was officially over.

And the Amihan or the northeast monsoon will gradually start in the coming days. As of now, Eclarino said, the country was still in a transition period between these two seasons.
