CEBU CITY,Philippines — The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will implement a “No-Fly Zone” over Cebu City during the Fiesta Señor celebration on Sunday, January 15, 2023.

Police Colonel Ireneo Dalogdog, chief of the CCPO, said the implementation of the “No-Fly Zone” is part of the security measures for the 458th Fiesta Señor.

It will also be effective during the Sinulog grand parade and the ritual showdown at the South Road Properties (SRP).

“Part sa atong security measures na kay naa man guy drone nga medyo ang iyahang  capability niya ba sa pag-alsa og item pwede man gud makabitbit og kanang IED or kanang bomba nga possible pwede ra pud ihulog ba so mao na atong ginaiwasan para ma-ensure nato ang security and safety sa mga tao nga gustong mo-witness sa Sinulog festival”, Dalogdog said.

(That’s part of our security measures because there are drones that have the capability to carry an item like an IED [improvized explosive device] or a bomb that they can drop and that’s what we’re trying to avoid to ensure the security and safety of those who want to witness the Sinulog Festival.)

Dalogdog, however, said that those who wish to use drones in covering all the religious and cultural activities in the city can get a permit first from the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7).

Those with permits could fly their drones on that day.

“Lahat ng drones [with no permits] na pinalilipad during that time is pinagbabawal,”  Dalogdog said.

(All drones with no permits that will be flying during that time is prohibited.)

Dalogdog said that a separate group of policemen will be assigned to monitor the air space over Cebu City for drones used for all the activities.

Those drones caught flying with no permits will be confiscated by the police.
