Gilas Pilipinas loses to Dominican Republic in Fiba World Cup debut

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Despite putting up a fierce fight, Gilas Pilipinas lost its first game in the FIBA World Cup 2023 to the visiting Dominican Republic, 87-81, Friday night, August 25, 2023 at the Philippine Arena.

Jordan Clarkson fouled out late in the game.  He finished with 28 points, seven rebounds and seven assists before fouling out with 3:32 still to play in the fourth quarter.

Karl-Anthony Towns led the Dominican Republic in the opener of the Fiba Basketball World Cup that the country was hosting.

Towns had 26 points and 10 rebounds in the game that was witnessed by 38,115 Fiba fans that included President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. | Mary Godinez, CTU Intern
