Rape with homicide raps filed against suspect in killing of 17-year-old girl in Toledo City

The police have filed a case of rape with homicide against the man accused of raping and killing on Friday morning, August 25, 2023, a 17-year-old student in Toledo City.

Jonathan Sugabo, a 29-year-old farmer, was first named as a person of interest, but he was later tagged as the prime suspect in the killing of Grade 12 student, Sharmaine Flores.

The case investigator told CDN Digital that the case against Sugabo was bolstered by a witness who said that he saw Sugabo in the area where the crime happened the night before the victim’s body was found. 

The witness even described the shirt that the suspect was wearing at that time. During a follow-up operation, police recovered the shirt from the suspect’s house. 

First day of classes generally ‘peaceful and secure’ – PRO-7

The regional police said the first day of classes in Central Visayas was ‘generally peaceful and secure.’

Police Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Ace Pelare told reporters that there were no reported untoward incident during Tuesday’s start of classes for schoolyear 2023 to 2024. 

Pelare, though, said that the most notable problem during the first day was the congestion of traffic in some areas due to the large number of vehicles on the road rushing to school and work.

He said that to secure the opening of classes, they had deployed 600 police assistance desks in different schools in the region and around 2,200 police personnel.

Pasigarbo sounds and lights provider denies sabotage claims

The sounds and lights company tapped for the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, which faced scrutiny following technical errors during Sunday’s culmination, denied allegations that they sabotaged the show.

Isidro Alberca, owner of Alberca Sounds and Lights, on Tuesday, insisted that they had no intention to disrupt the performances of several contingents during the Ritual Showdown last Sunday.

He said he did not do anything wrong and would never sabotage the show. He also apologized to Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and asked the latter to give them the chance to explain their side. 

He pointed out that the technical glitches experienced last Sunday might have been due to logistical difficulties on the days leading to the Pasigarbo.
