Pasigarbo sounds and lights provider denies sabotage claims
CEBU CITY, Philippines – The sounds and lights company tapped for the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, which faced scrutiny following technical errors during Sunday’s culmination, denied allegations that they sabotaged the show.
Isidro Alberca, owner of Alberca Sounds & Lights, on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, has spoken up about the controversies and speculations in a statement published on social media.
In it, Alberca wrote that they had no intentions to disrupt the performances of several contingents during the Ritual Showdown last Sunday.
“Wala gyud ko magbuhat nimo ug dautan, wala gyud nako sabotahea ang show,” he said.
(I did not do anything wrong, I did not sabotage the show.)
Alberca also asked for Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia’s apologies and hoped that the governor would also listen to their side on the issue.
“Gov. Gwen, sorry gyd kaayo nimo pero paminawa pod tawon akong side. Malooy pod tawon ka namo,” he explained.
(Gov. Gwen, I am very sorry but please hear my side. Have pity on us.)
He pointed out that the technical glitches experienced last Sunday may have been due to logistical difficulties on the days leading to the Pasigarbo.

According to Alberca, they had to change their setup on the venue, which is at the Carcar City Sports Complex, multiple times.
“Kabalo gyd ka unsa akong gibuhat sa Pasigarbo, unsay effort akong gihatag ani nga set up nga ma ok ang tanan. I hope masabtan pod unta unsa among kahago sa pag balhin balhin sa set up. Ug sayod ang tanan na unsa kapait among nasinati atong tima,” he explained.
(You know what I did for Pasigarbo, the effort that I put in this set up for all of this to be okay. I hope you also understand the struggles we went through in transferring the set up. And everyone knows the difficulties we were experiencing at that time.)
Last Sunday, August 27, technical glitches bogged down the performances of several contingents for the Ritual Showdown of Pasigarbo sa Sugbo.
In turn, organizers from the Capitol decided to review the results of the festival. They also postponed the awarding ceremony indefinitely while the re-computation of scores is ongoing.

Garcia slammed Alberca Sounds and Lights, and described the technical errors as an attempt ‘to sabotage’ the event. He also called out its owner for being ‘unethical’ after failing to disclose that his daughter joined the Pasigarbo Festival Queen.
Alberca did not mention about his daughter participating for the Pasigarbo sa Festival Queen in his statement.
This year’s Pasigarbo had 50 participating contingents. It was held in Carcar City.
