Copa Paulino Alcantara: Gentle Giants eye 3rd straight win vs. Pilipinas Dragons on Sunday

CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Cebu Football Club (CFC) Gentle Giants look forward to earning their third straight win in the Copa Paulino Alcantara of the Philippines Football League (PFL) during their game against the Pilipinas Dragons scheduled on Sunday,  September 3, 2023, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The Gentle Giants came from back-to-back victories in Group B of the competition.

Last Sunday, the Gentle Giants obliterated the Manila Diggers FC, 4-1, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Before that, they hosted the University of the Philippines (UP) at the Dynamic Herb-Borromeo Sports Complex, where they bagged their first win in the tournament, 2-0, last August 20.

The Pilipinas Dragons, on the other hand, now have one victory and two defeats. The Dragons hope o bounce back from their 0-2 defeat against Maharlika Manila FC last August 20 at the same venue.

Their only win was against the Diggers, 1-0, last August 9. 

During its game at 4 p.m. on Sunday, CFC will have rely on its ace forwards, Chima Uzoka, Turkish striker Arda Cinkir, and Japanese winger Rintaro Hama, who delivered the winning goals in their two previous matches.

Meanwhile, the Dragons will bank on its striker, Andrei Paolo Gonzales, who scored the lone winning goal against the Diggers last August 9. 

Aside from the Copa Paulino Alcantara, CFC is also slated to compete in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup Group Stage on September 21 at the same venue.

They landed under Group F along with the Phnom Penh Crown FC, Shan United, and Macarthur FC.
