CEBU CITY, Philippines – A 16-wheeler truck, which lost two of its tires while traversing the northbound lane of Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR), was blamed for the congestion that motorists experienced early Tuesday morning, September 5.

The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) confirmed that the truck got stuck along the highway, and nearly occupied one lane of the northbound road of CSCR since 3:10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The vehicle only managed to get out past 10 a.m. – or nearly seven hours since it bogged down in one of Metro Cebu’s busiest freeways.

According to Ronie Nadera, officer-in-charge for communications at the CCTO, they issued at least seven citation tickets against the driver and operator of the truck.

Quoting initial investigations from their traffic enforcers, Nadera said their existing tow trucks do not have the capacity to tow the 16-wheeler due to its load weight.

The vehicle reportedly carried tons of cement, and bound for the ports, he added. With no tow trucks available, the driver and his assistant had to wait for their colleagues to bring in spare tires and repair them, causing a traffic jam in the area.
