LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Officials of Barangay Pajo in Lapu-Lapu City are asking authorities to investigate attempts to burn homes in Sitio Camansi in the said barangay.
Barangay Captain Lyndell Bullos said they already recorded at least three arson attempts in the area.
“Mao na akong gibuhat karon, nagbutang ko ug duha ka tanod didto para mo-roving kada gabie unya para naa silay masangpit didto,” Bullos said.
(What I’m doing now is that I deployed two tanods for night roving and so that residents in the area will have someone to call [in case of the need for assistance].)
To date, Bullos said they are yet to determine the motive for the arson attempts and identify the people who are behind these, thus they need the police to conduct a formal investigation on the matter.
Bullos said there are those who suspect that the arson attempts could be related to politics.
There are also residents who think that some people are planning evict them from their coastal community to pave the way for the city’s plan to build a coastal road there.
He said that the most recent arson attempt happened at midnight on September 7.
Luckily, the fire that started at the residence of a certain Alicia was immediate putout with the help of neighbors.
Bullos said they found footprints on the ground near Alicia’s home and occupants of the said house smelled gas shortly before the fire broke out.
The barangay captain said that he personally reported the incident at the Gun-ob Police Station that has jurisdiction of Barangay Pajo. / dcb
