Rongcales upsets MPBA defending champion Truck N’ Trail in debut game

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Mandaue’s Pride Basketball Association (MPBA) Season 2: Cebuano Cup newcomer Rongcales stunned the defending champion, Truck N’ Trail, 96-92, in their debut game on Sunday evening, Sept. 10,  at the Cebu Port Authority (CPA) gymnasium.

Rex Tuazon and JR Almohallas orchestrated the huge upset victory against the heavily favored Truck N’ Trail.

This as, Tuazon scored 26 points with four rebounds, three assists, and two steals, while Almohallas had 23 markers, four boards, three assists, and three steals.

Eman Villamor chipped in 12 points in their tooth-and-nail battle against the defending champions which saw 11 lead changes and nine deadlocks. 

Paul Sungahid led Truck N Trail with his double-double game of 17 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, and one steal.

Baruk Ceniza and Dwight Dabon each scored 14 points, and Jeslar Larumbe had 13 markers in their losing efforts. 

Also, the Agalons debuted in the MPBA on the winning side after eking out a hard-earned win, 96-94, against JDCB Ballers. 

Joseph Cabahug unloaded 19 points to lead the Agalons, while Rexon Moneva added 18 and James Gomez with 17 points. 

James Ferraren and Harold Javier chipped in 14 and 11 points, respectively. 

On the other hand, Robbert Barbon, Tauee Canedo, and Jerome Barrita each scored 16 points in the JDCB Ballers’ defeat. 

In the other game on Sunday evening, Steadfast Builders clobbered Monterroyo, 100-69, behind Zyrey Maglasang’s 16 points.

Maglasang nearly had a double-double after grabbing nine rebounds, while teammate Paul Abenaza had 12 points, and Gio Antigua with 10 points in their win. 

Miguel Perez scored 18 and JB Daviolo had 16 points in their losing efforts. / dcb
