CEBU CITY, Philippines — To fast-track plate distribution, Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II sent more manpower from the Central Office in Manila to LTO Central Visayas (LTO-7).

Three personnel were sent last week to assist in expediting the distribution process of the unclaimed license plates in Region 7. They were also tasked to help with the scanning and uploading of the licensed plates that are set for distribution in the region.

The Central Office sent the additional manpower to assist with the scanning of QR codes of the licensed plates and printing of the radio frequency identification (RFID). This would also make them prepared for contactless traffic citations.

LTO-7 Regional Director Glen Galario said in a press release on Tuesday, September 19, that the personnel brought two computers for the QR codes and RFID stickers as instructed by Mendoza.

At present, there are 14 LTO-7 personnel assigned in the warehouse to manage the operations and make sure to fast-track the process of releasing.

It can be recalled that Mendoza visited the impounding facility of Cebu and the plates warehouse last August 1 in Talisay City, Cebu.

After his visit, Mendoza ordered to send more personnel to LTO-7 to expedite the distribution of the plates, noting that they still have to release more than half a million licensed plates.

Mendoza’s initiative is also in accordance with the order of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Baustista to address the distribution of the plates in the country.

Galario said in an earlier report that 600,000 plates should have been distributed by October 4 this year.

“We thank Asec. Vigor D. Mendoza II and DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista for their support in Central Visayas to help us in releasing thousands of licensed plates in LTO-7,” Galario said.

LTO-7 has released a total of 76,348 from June 9 to September 18, 2023. They released 63,739 motorcycle plates while 12,609 were motor vehicle plates.

Last week, Galario visited the plates warehouse in Talisay City to assess the current status and progress of the operations there.

Moreover, on September 9, LTO-7 launched their ‘Oplan Bigay Plaka’ campaign, where they gathered data from motorists to help them verify the availability of their license plates.

“This initiative collects vital data from motorists and simplifies the process of verifying and communicating with the owners on the availability of their licensed plates,” Galario said.

The LTO-7 also urged motorcycle and vehicle owners bearing temporary plates to bring a photocopy of their original receipt (OR) and certificate of registration (OR) to the nearest LTO office in the region.

After that, the district or extension office would then communicate with the warehouse when the plates are available.
