CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office in Central Visayas (LTO-7) started their region-wide plate distribution campaign on Saturday, September 9.

The activity called, “Oplan Bigay Plaka” aimed to gather data from the motorists to help them verify the availability of their license plates.

On Saturday, LTO-7 Regional Director Glen Galario led the activity where personnel from LTO-7 flagged down motorists with temporary vehicle plate numbers.

The motorists were only asked about their important details so the LTO would message them once their plates would be available for pickup.

During their activity in N. Bacalso Avenue in Cebu City on Saturday, Galario informed some drivers about LTO’s extension in distributing the unclaimed licensed plates in Central Visayas.

Galario said that LTO-7 had released 63,083 licensed plates in Central Visayas from June 9 to September 8, 2023.

Fast-track distribution

Last August 1, Mendoza visited the impounding facility of Cebu and the storage area for motor vehicle and motorcycle plates in Talisay City.

The facility situated inside the Maswerte Properties Corporation was envisioned to be an LTO one-stop-shop.

Mendoza said that his Cebu visit aimed to address the accumulated unclaimed assigned and issued plate numbers in the region which were over 600,000.

As of June 2023, there are 71,564 unclaimed motor vehicle plates and 528,772 motorcycle plates in Central Visayas.

This makes the region on the top list of the most number of unclaimed plates in the country.

Mendoza said in a press release that they would be coordinating with the motor vehicle and motorcycle dealers to fast-track the release of the plates.

“We’re putting a timeline to this to see where we can go. We’re talking to some motor vehicle dealers para tulungan tayo, kasi sila naman nagbenta nung sasakyan so alam nila kanino dapat ibigay yung plaka. Some will coordinate with them para matulungan tayo na mapamahagi to,” he said.
