CEBU CITY, Philippines —  Team Moalboal won a gold medal in the World Dancesport Federation Cebu Open on Sept. 30, 2023, at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino just two months after starting its free dancesport training.

Sisters Ariana Margarrette and Zamantha Nicole Koleszar, who started training under coach Arvin Flores just last summer, got the first place in the Youth Duo Latin category in just their second tournament, besting some 90 other participants from the Philippines and countries like Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

“We are very thankful to Mayor Inocentes Cabaron for always supporting sports in general and dancesport in particular in Moalboal,” said Flores.

Mayor Cabaron started a free training program, which included dancesport, for the Moalboal youth last summer and extended it up to the end of the year due to the clamor.

Aside from dancesport, the free training done every weekend also covers basketball, volleyball, table tennis, tennis, badminton, and sepak takraw.

After the WDSF Cebu Open, Team Moalboal is looking at joining a dancesport tournament in Manila to further improve the team.   /rcg
