Dancesport tilt in Cebu City: National team members win most of the golds

CEBU CITY, Philippines — National dancesport team members shone in the recent Philippine DanceSport Federation (PDSF) 3rd Quarterly Rankings and Competition last September 30, 2023, at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

The event was held simultaneously with the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) Cebu Open 2023 which attracted a dozen countries from around the world.

Dancesport Team Cebu City’s very own power couple Wilbert Aunzo and Perl Cañeda with fellow national team members Sean Aranar and Ana Leonila Aranar ruled their respective categories of the PDSF 3rd Quarterly Rankings.

Aunzo and Cañeda topped the Grade A Latin, while DTCC teammates Jefferson Pimentel and Mary Desiree Seraga earned the silver medal. The bronze went to another national team pair of Michael Angelo Marquez of Cebu and Stephanis Sabalo.

Sean and Ana Aranar ruled the Grade A standard, while Manila’s Mark Jayson Gayon and Mary Joy Renigen bagged the silver medal. Lew Gian Jose Yee and Willanne Rose Ducay pocketed the bronze medal.

Three more dancesport events were ruled by DTCC couples.

Rhyss Rhafael Fajardo and Shadelle Niña Hernandez won the gold medal in the juniors Standard-A and Dylan Jacob Kazer Esmero and Sofia Isabella Maree Quilaton topped the Latin Youth-A.

Joining them on top of the podium were Francis Dave Sombal and Mitchloni Dinauanao who won the Open Latin Youth-A.

Meanwhile, Iloilo’s Klynne Joseph Castigador and Ma. Victoria Cruz topped the Latin Junior-A while fellow Ilonggos Justin L. Pareja and Czkha Gyle Garrucha emerged champions in the dancesport Youth Standard-A.

WDSF Cebu Open winners

In the WDSF Cebu Open competition, Spain’s David Diaz Falcon and Denis Beccari ruled the Adult Latin category.

Marquez and Sabalo earned the silver medal, while Aunzo and Cañeda salvaged the bronze.

The one-day WDSF Cebu Open drew over a thousand dancesport couples from the Philippines, United States, France, Germany, Australia, Serbia, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Sweden, Russia, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Switzerland, Poland, and Spain.

It marked Cebu’s first hosting of the international dancesport event since 2019.   /rcg
