Korean dancesport couple wins gold in adult category of the WDSF Cebu Open 2023
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Korean dancesport couple Hoon Jung and Yeeun Lee captured the gold medal in the standard adult category of the ongoing World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF) Cebu Open 2023.
Jung and Lee were just one the about a thousand dancesport couple coming from a dozen countries who competed in Cebu’s first hosting of the WDSF Cebu Open 2023 since 2019.
The competition was held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino on Saturday, September 30, 2023.
China’s Zhaoming Wang and Mengting Cai earned the silver medal, while Kai Sum Sam Liu and Wan Hin Liu of Hong Kong bagged the bronze medal in the event.
Meanwhile, Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) gold medalist Sean Aranar and Ana Nualla of the Philippines settled for fourth place, while Chinese Taipei’s Li Lin and Wen Hsin Hsieh landed at fifth place.
Completing the top six couples in the standard adult category were Mark Jayson Gayon and Mary Joy Renigen of the Philippines.
A total of 18 couples competed in the said category.
Some of the competing countries were the United States, France, Germany, Australia, Serbia, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Sweden, Russia, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Switzerland, Poland, and Spain.
Aside the WDSF Cebu Open, the event also featured the Philippine Dance Sport Federation (PDSF) Third Quarterly Ranking and Competition that was held simultaneously held at the same venue.
No less than Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) officials comprised of PSC commissioners Walter Francis Torres and Edward Hayco, who is also the founder of Dancesport Team Cebu City, co-organized the international event in partnership with the PDSF.
