LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – Owners and operators of electric tricycles (e-trikes) in Cordova town will now be asked to register their units.
Last Sept. 27, Cordova Mayor Cesar Suan signed into law Municipal Ordinance No. 2023-111 that requires the mandatory registration of all e-trikes in Cordova town, both privately owned and those that are used for public transport.
Failure to register said e-trikes would be meted with fines ranging from P500 to P2,500 and the impounding of the unregistered unit.
Annual registration
Ordinance No. 2023-111 that was authored by Councilor Lemuel Pogoy, chairman of the committee of transportation, requires the annual registration of e-trikes with the Cordova Traffic Team.
But the ordinance warned that even if the e-trikes are already registered, the municipal government will continue to prohibit its entry into national highways and major thoroughfares in Cordova town.
Minors will also be prohibited from driving e-trikes, it added.
Minimum fare
Moreover, the e-trikes ordinance fixes the minimum fare at P15 per passenger in the event that only one passenger is taking a ride at a time.
The minimum fare is fixed at P10 per passenger in the event that two passengers are taking a ride at the same time.
Drivers of e-trikes are also required to give a P2 discounts to senior citizens, students, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), the ordinance says.
