CEBU CITY, Philippines — The finals cast of Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Season 26’s Division A was finally completed on Sunday, October 8, 2023.

This as, the Bayfront Hotel-Batch 1990/1997 and ARQ-Batch 2001 defeated their respective foes in their Do-or-Die game three of their semifinals series. 

Sunday’s outcome put Batch 2001 and Batch 1990/1997 in a collission course to determine this season’s champion in Division A.

Batch 1990/1997 staged a huge upset after dethroning Core Pacific Money Exchange-Batch 2000, 49-33, behind Chad Go’s 15-point outing.

Go also added nine rebounds and four assists to lead Batch 1990/1997, while teammate Dave Lim added 11 points, nine boards, and three assists. 

Sergs Al Go Bui had eight points, while Johannes Chua added seven points for Batch 2000.

Villarica paces Batch 2001

Meanwhile, Carlo Villarica exploded for 21 points to lead Batch 2001 in defeating Speed Demon Vivant-Batch 1994/1995/1996, 72-58. 

Villarica paired it with seven steals, three blocks, and one assist.

His teammate Jason Arquisola had a double-double game of 12 points with 11 rebounds, three assists, and one steal, while John Paul Cabrera had 11 points for Batch 2001. 

Batch 1994/95/96’s Junie Alejando scored 19 points with six boards, while Tonyson Luther Lee had 12 points in their losing efforts. 

Batch 1990/1997 and Batch 2001’s best-of-three finals series in Division A is on October 15 along with Division and C’s finals.

Batch 2021 nips Batch 2014

On the other hand, Batch 2021 shocked the heavily-favored Harley Davidson-Batch 2014, 78-72, to capture the third place in Division C. 

Rey Marcus Fuentes IV erupted for a double-double game of 29 points, 10 boards, two assists, and one block. 

Mark Patrick Dumon also had a double-double outing for Batch 2021 with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists, and Brandon Largo added 12 points for Batch 2021. 

Batch 2014’s Jair Igna spoiled his 39-point outing with nine rebounds, and three assists. Popoy Navarro had 12 points in Batch 2014’s defeat.

Chioson fires 39 points

In Division B’s battle for third, Puresteel Manufacturing Corporation-Batch 2011 routed ’04 For the Win-Batch 2004, 81-58. 

Bernard Chioson unloaded 39 points with 12 rebounds, and four assists for Batch 2011. 

Lance Co added 13 points and 11 boards as Batch 2011 settled for third in Division B. 

Ervin Lopena had 22 points and nine rebounds for Batch 2004.
