CEBU CITY, Philippines — The University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Green Lancers pulled a lopsided 90-66 win over the University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors in the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) high school basketball on Thursday, October 19, 2023.

The Baby Green Lancers rode on the hot hands of John Dela Torre, who made eight three point shots or 24 points in his 32-point outing, during their game at the Cebu Coliseum.

The victory improved the Baby Green Lancers record to two wins with two losses. Their game on Thursday was also a fitting comeback for them after losing to the high school defending champions, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles, 58-67, last October 8.

Roderick Cambarihan also had a stellar evening after scoring 24 points, while Kenneth Cole added 12. Kenneth Abangan chipped in 11 markers in UV’s lopsided win.

Dela Torre’s eight three points was the most made this season so far. His record was behind the 9-threes made by fellow Green Lancer AJ Sacayan in the college division last October 14 in UV’s win over USJ-R in the men’s basketball action.

During their game on Thursday, Neil Abarita and Andrew Pepito scored 12 and 10 points, respectively for the Baby Warriors who absorbed their fifth loss in six games.

The Baby Green Lancers led as many as 25 points 90-65, in the end game, but before that, they endured a 10-point deficit, 20-30 in the second period.

However, they retaliated with a 15-4 scoring blitz to turn the game completely with a 35-34 lead and went on to seal the first half with a five-point cushion, 41-36.

In the second half, dela Torre caught fire on the three point line, scoring 15 points from five treys that helped stretch their lead to 15 points, 58-53, heading into the final period.

The Baby Green Lancers further stretched their lead to 22 points 77-55, midway in the final canto. USC tried to make a comeback by cutting the lead to 16, 63-79, but UV responded with their own scoring run to bring the lead back to 20, 83-63, as time winded down.
