UC, UV log wins in Cesafi 2023 high school cagefest
CEBU CITY, Philippines — The University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters and the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Green Lancers logged victories in the high school basketball of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) 2023 Season on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Baby Webmasters started their campaign by narrowly beating the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) Baby Panthers, 62-60, in their first game.
Contrastingly, the Baby Green Lancers made easy work against the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildkittens, 86-53, to log their first win in two games.
Lourdonnie Cuyos and Dezetto Villanueva tandemed in UC’s win after scoring 13 points apiece. Johncel Dorsal and Jayver Palco each chipped in eight markers.
Incredibly, Palco scored all his eight points in the pivotal final period.
John Howard Ta-ala had 19 points, 12 of which were tallied in the final period, but that wasn’t enough to put USP-F on the winning side. Teammate Fritz John Gonzales scored 11 points in their losing efforts.
Meanwhile, Ismael Culdora erupted for 21 points to topscore the Baby Green Lancers. It was a huge win for the Baby Green Lancers following their heartbreaking defeat, 61-63, in the hands of University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu Mandaue (UCLM) Webmasters last September 26, 2023.
Roderick Cambarijan scored 19 points and John Dela Torre added 14 markers for UV.
Sam Kyle Aballe and Ezekiel Zamoras each scored nine points in CIT-U’s defeat.
The Baby Webmasters will return into action on October 5 at 5 p.m. against the returning Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) Greywolves, while the Baby Green Lancers take on the defending champions, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles on October 8 at 2 p.m.
On the other hand, USP-F will face DBTC on October 8 at 1 p.m., while CIT-U squares off with DBTC on October 12 at 5 p.m. / dcb
