CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Season 26 officially wrapped up last Sunday, October 22, with the ARQ Sports-Batch 2001, Cebu Landmasters-Batch 2003, and Nest Workspaces-Batch 2013 hoisting the champions’ trophies after sweeping their respective best-of-three finals series at the Magis Eagles Arena in Mandaue City.
SHAABAA Division A and C crowned its new champions in Batch 2001 and Batch 2013, while Division B’s defending champions, Batch 2003 completed their title-retention bid. These three teams completed their stellar finals run in just two games.
Batch 2001 narrowly defeated Bayfront Hotel-Batch 1990/1997, 59-56, in game two held last Sunday, to emerge as the SHAABAA Division A’s newest champions.
Meanwhile, Batch 2003 routed Efficascent Boost-BRC-2010, 82-61, to defend their title in Division B.
On the other hand, Division C crowned a new champion in Batch 2013 after dethroning erstwhile champions, Puresteel Manufacturing Corporation-Batch 2012, 74-62.
Batch 2001’s Josef Rey Reoma fired 21 points to topscore the game. He paired it with one rebound, two assists, and one steal.
ARQ Sports big boss Jason Arquisola had a double-double game of 11 points, 11 rebounds, eight steals, and two assists as Batch 2001 endured seven deadlocks and six lead changes before winning the game and clinching the Division A title.
Roderick Mangubat had 15 points and Walter Ong added 13 in Batch 1990/1997’s losing efforts.
DETHRONED
Batch 2013 dethroned Batch 2012 behind Fletcher Galvez’s amazing double-double game of 16 points, 19 rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
Arc Gabriel Araw-Ara unloaded 15 points with six boards, six assists, and two steals.
Their teammates Rendell Senining and Nikki Pimentel each chipped in 11 markers.
Adven Jess Diputado poured everything on the floor with 28 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and three steals in Batch 2012’s loss.
Julius Salvador Cadavis had 13 and Maverick Fitz Suarez added 12 in their losing efforts.
CHAMPIONS STILL
Batch 2003 was the only remaining champion to successfully defend their title in the SHAABAA Season 26, thanks to Daryle Tan and Justin Ross Huang’s incredible game on Sunday.
Tan and Huang each had double-double outings for Batch 2003. Tan had 26 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block, while Huang scored 25 markers, 16 rebounds, three assists, and one block.
Barneth Moncrief Rogado chipped in 10 points for the defending champions.
Meanwhile, Joseph Zozobrado dropped 17 points, while Gabe Branzuela added 12 and Jasper Diaz chipped in 10 points for Batch 2010.
